Dental Implants

Valencia, CA

If you have missing or damaged teeth, you may want to consider dental implants. These prosthetic teeth that are used to replace natural teeth, whether for single, multiple, or all the teeth.

What Is a Dental Implant?

The dental implant itself is actually an artificial titanium screw acting as the tooth root. After being surgically placed in the jaw, the implant will integrate with the rest of the bone.

Some of the benefits of dental implants are:

  • Natural-looking: The porcelain crown attached to the dental implant underneath the gums via an abutment is color-matched to the remaining natural teeth, so it is virtually indistinguishable from your real teeth.
  • Permanent solution: Dental implants usually last a lifetime, especially if you are diligent in following your dentist’s instructions following your dental implant surgery.
  • Comfortable: You’ll be able to eat, smile confidently and with ease, unlike other tooth replacement options such as dentures, which can trap food particles or debris underneath, causing discomfort or pain.
  • Helps maintain facial structure: Dental implants prevent the face from caving in. When you lose teeth, the jawbone gradually disintegrates, as you may noticed in people who have lost all their teeth and failed to replace them with dental implants.
  • Stable: Unlike dentures which move when you chew, talk, laugh and even sneeze, dental implants stay in place throughout.
  • Durable: Dental implants do not decay unlike natural teeth, because the artificial root prevents this.

Process for Getting Dental Implants

  • Consultation: During your dental exam, Dr. Al-Samarrai will take photos and digital x-rays to determine how strong your jawbone is. Impressions will be made, so your dentist can ensure the proper placement of the dental implant. In addition to looking at your teeth your dentist will explain to you what the procedure entails and how you should prepare for your upcoming appointments.
  • Dental implant surgery: Your second visit involves the dental implant surgery. Dr. Al-Samarrai will use local anesthetic to numb you so you won’t feel any pain, only pressure, during the process. The surgery involves placing the dental implant screw into the jaw, often with a synthetic bone graft to ensure it integrates properly with the existing bone, a process called osseointegration. Next, gums are sutured, and you will need 3 months to heal during osseointegration.
  • Abutment placement: The dental implant connects to the crown via an abutment, which is attached to the implant during a second minor procedure. At this time, a temporary dental crown is placed. A set of impressions will be made to mold the new, permanent porcelain crown to the abutment in a follow-up appointment.
  • Crown placement: Finally, once your crown(s) come back from the dental laboratory, they will be placed and attached to the abutment. At this point, the process is complete and you are good to go!

Process for Getting Dental Implants

Our dentist understands how many patients cannot afford to pay for their dental implants in one lump payment. That’s why we offer financing options, so patients can pay a part of their bill every month for one or two years. There are also credit cards such as Care Credit that allow you to pay off your dental fees over the course of 6, 8, to 12 months, based on the terms they give you.
